Cautionary health announcement. We have received information concerning a litter of puppies that have been in recent contact with the Parvo Virus and who unbeknown to them, may have already, or be planning to attend dog related events in the near future. The pup in question, was symptomatic and diagnosed within 48 hours of arriving in his new home and following a fast diagnosis and effective treatment for the virus, his health has improved significantly and he is expected to make a full recovery. Given that we are aware some of the other puppies from this litter have been homed within BFA households, and following consultation with the BFA’s Veterinary Advisor, the following precautionary steps will now be enforced. In the event that any of the identified littermates or adult dogs from the new owners households express any symptoms similar to those of the Parvo Virus, unless diagnostic tests are able to rule out the presence of the Parvo Virus, they will not be permitted to attend any BFA events for a period of 21 days from the first day of being ‘symptom free.’ Please be advised that symptoms of Parvo Virus include but are not limited to: Diarrhoea, Vomiting, Lethargy, Bloody Stools, anorexia, a raised temperature and rapid weight loss. If you have recently purchased a Border Collie pup within the last 21 days and he/she has expressed any of the above symptoms, we recommend that you seek veterinary advise immediately. In an effort to safeguard all the memberships dogs, please report any cases of Parvo Virus to the committee.
